Gaudium IVF the pioneers of the first state-of-the-art facilities for advanced Infertility Treatments (IVF, IUI, ICSI, EMBRYO FREEZING, Egg Donation, Donor Insemination, PESA/ TESA and Surrogacy) the multi-specialty in fertility treatments celebrated its second anniversary at an International conference held in New Delhi on March 06, 2011.

A press conference was organised to mark the completion of two successful years and to announce the new initiatives undertaken in the domain of Infertility treatment. Chief guest – Professor Roy Homburg, Sr.Gyanaec Surgeon from UK and Dr.Sergey Yokovenko from MOSCOW, graced the occasion along with dignitaries Dr.Manika Khanna, Director Gaudium IVF.

This conference intended by renowned gynecologist of Delhi served as an educational platform to discuss the existing problems such as PCOD and the scientific procedures which can serve as an effective cure to these problems. The usage of Letrozole formulation, which, was being given for treating infertility was discussed and deliberated at the session. Though there is statistically significant data to support letrozole for its advantage over CC (Clomiphene citrate) but it is true that letrozole is an acceptable alternative to CC as an ovulation induction agent in PCOS. Letrozole may be of benefit for patients in whom CC has failed.

In an elegant study by Tulandi et al. where in 911 newborns conceived after infertility treatment with letrozole and clomiphene citrate were accessed for congenital malformations, they found that there was no difference in the overall rates of major and minor congenital malformations among the 2 groups. However, it appeared that congenital cardiac anomaly was less frequent in the letrozole group. Till date there is no data to prove Letrozole is teratogenic (Substance that is able to disturb the growth and development of an EMBRYO or fetus)

About Gaudium IVF Surrogacy CENTRE:

Gaudium, an IVF and Gynae solutions centre set up by renowned and awarded Dr. Manika Khanna to help childless couples conceive and have their own bundle of joy. Fully equipped with all the state-of-the-art facilities our centre offers advanced Infertility Treatments like IVF, IUI, ICSI, EMBRYO FREEZING, Egg Donation, Donor Insemination, PESA/ TESA and Surrogacy. Today, with an unmatched success rate of 52% (Average international success Rate being 30-35%), having treated more than 2000 infertile (childless) couples with a record of several successful cases which were pronounced almost untreatable, but today are considered almost like a miracle.

Test-tube babies or babies born through artificial fertilisation techniques in labs used to be looked down upon in INDIA till recently, but this mindset is changing and the acceptance of IVF babies is gradually increasing. As the problem of Infertility is on the rise, the number of couples resorting to the IVF method has increased. The therapy has undergone several important improvements. It is not only safe but is an effective therapy when sperm and egg cannot meet inside the body. Approximately four million individuals have been born thanks to IVF.

Reasons aplenty
The reasons attributed to this trend are many. Primarily, there’s greater awareness about IVF treatment. People have come to regard the fact that being diagnosed with Infertility does not necessarily mean that one is destined to lead a life without kids and that modern interventions in the form of treatments can today bring about real breakthroughs in conception and child birth.

Another important aspect behind IVF gaining popularity in INDIA is due to its high rate of success. The chances of conception are much higher for Indian couples because they normally get married at an earlier age as compared to their Western counterparts. Over 60 per cent of people going in for IVF in India belong to the age group of 25-35, reports suggest.

The cost of having a baby through the IVF route in India is also much less than it is in the West. And, of course, there is a large skill base in terms of specialists and expertise available. With families being far more supportive, one sees IVF treatment being offered even in Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns. Certainly, IVF methods involve some amount of risk like miscarriages and stillbirths. But, say experts, these risks are small considering the benefits and joys of having a baby.

The process
In the IVF method, the ova or eggs extracted from a woman’s ovaries are fused with the sperm — taken from her male counterpart — artificially in a lab environment. The fertilised egg/s are then transferred to the woman’s womb.

IVF offers a silver lining to those who are afflicted with problems leading to infertility like ovulation disorders, blocked or damaged fallopian tubes, endometriosis and male factors such as low sperm counts, low sperm mobility, etc. Any couple in the reproductive age group can seek the assisted reproductive technology method of IVF. As mentioned, the lower the age, the higher the chances of conception.

Nearly 37 per cent of women under the age of 36 who undergo an IVF procedure stand a chance of successful PREGNANCY. The percentage of success comes down slightly in women above 35 and 40 to 15-30 per cent. It must be mentioned here that statistics reveal that the success rate of conception through natural sexual intercourse has also come down to this level.

The Nobel Prize award to Robert Edwards for the development of human in vitro fertilisation therapy will surely go a long way to spread the much required awareness.
